When a sore knee, an aching shoulder, or a stubborn heel keeps you from work or your weekends, you may want options that do not start with surgery. Central Pain & Spine offers platelet-rich plasma and regenerative medicine as a conservative, minimally invasive approach for certain joint and tendon problems, including tendonitis, arthritis, and joint damage.

Our fellowship-trained physicians in East Brunswick, NJ, and Fort Lee, NJ, focus on restoring function with minimal downtime. Regenerative medicine promotes healing in the treated area so you can get back to work, sports, and family life.

TYPES OF REGENERATIVE MEDICINE

Types of Regenerative Medicine We Offer

Regenerative medicine is not a one-size-fits-all treatment. Every plan begins with an accurate diagnosis, and from there we match the right option to your condition and goals.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

PRP is made from a small sample of your own blood. The sample is processed to create plasma with a higher concentration of platelets, and platelets carry naturally occurring growth factors that play a role in healing. When PRP is delivered to a painful joint or tendon, those growth factors may support your body’s healing response and help calm long-standing irritation.

Depending on your diagnosis, PRP may be an option for chronic joint or tendon problems affecting the knees, shoulders, hips, or heels, including certain forms of joint pain and arthritis.

Targeted Injections

Where the PRP goes matters as much as what is in it. Our physicians may use ultrasound or fluoroscopic (live X-ray) guidance to visualize the treatment area and precisely guide the injection into the intended joint, tendon, or surrounding tissue. Image guidance can be

HOW REGENERATIVE MEDICINE WORKS

How Does Regenerative Medicine Work for Joint Pain?

PRP treatment starts with a blood draw and ends with the prepared plasma being injected into the area your physician is treating.

01
Blood draw:
We start by drawing a small amount of blood from your arm, the same as any routine lab test.
02
Centrifugation:
That blood sample spins in a centrifuge until it separates into layers, and the platelet-rich layer is the one we set aside.
03
Image-guided delivery:
Using ultrasound or fluoroscopy for a clear view, your physician places the PRP right where your pain is coming from.
04
Natural recovery:
Now your body takes over. PRP does not switch pain off, so improvement builds slowly over weeks, and mild soreness for a day or two is nothing to worry about.

Results from joint injections are often most noticeable after several weeks. Your care team will also explain when you can return to exercise, heavy lifting, and other activities.

PRP comes from your own blood, which makes allergic reactions less likely. Your physician will still review your health history, medications, diagnosis, and goals before deciding whether it is appropriate for you.

Fellowship-trained leadership

Care is led by two interventional pain physicians. Dr. Saad Riaz, our founder, completed his fellowship at Stony Brook University Hospital and counts regenerative medicine among his clinical interests. Dr. Donghwan (David) Lee trained at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School.

Personalized care plans

No two joints wear the same way. We build each plan around your symptoms, activity level, and goals, whether you are a firefighter who needs to get back on shift or a retiree who wants to keep gardening.

Conservative-first approach

Major surgery is rarely the first step. When an appropriate non-surgical, minimally invasive treatment is available, the goal is to improve function while limiting the downtime and disruption that can come with more invasive care.

Take the First Step Toward Relief

If joint or tendon pain limits what you can do, platelet-rich plasma and regenerative medicine may be a conservative option worth discussing. Central Pain & Spine finds the source of your pain first, then decides whether PRP or another minimally invasive treatment is right for you.
